Biographical Information

About me

I was born October 1966 in Germiston, South Africa. I attended the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, and obtained a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1990. In 1994, I relocated to the United States with my wife, Sharon. We now live in Southern Florida. Our first child, Jared, was born September 1995 in Independence, Missouri. Our second child, Amber, was born March 1997, also in Independence. (Browse our family photo album). I have one brother, Gary.

Some of my musical influences

Vangelis The Greek-born Evangelos Papathanassiou is an artist that defies categorization. Occasionally, you will find his works in the New Age section, other times in the Pop/Rock section, and sometimes even in the Jazz section (although I shudder at the thought!) His style ranges from lightly ethereal to hard rock, to something in-between that is quite literally undefinable. Vangelis is widely sought after as a composer for movie scores. Some of his most famous work include the themes from Blade Runner and Chariots of Fire. Some of my favorite albums include: Spiral, The City, Heaven and Hell (which includes the Third Movement, made famous as the theme music for Carl Sagan's Cosmos television series), Ignacio and 1492.

Enya Unless you have been living on Mars for the past decade, you must have heard of Enya. The younger sister of the Irish musical family that composes Clannad, Enya (full name: Eithne Ní Bhraonáin) is another artist who fits no known genre. Her music is multi-layered, ethereal, and at the same time deeply evocative. I have no one favorite album, but among my long list of favorite songs are Orinoco Flow, Afer Ventus, Book of Days, China Roses and Only If. Enya uses her voice to good effect, singing in English, Gaelic, Latin and French.

Mike Oldfield The British-born Mike Oldfield first burst onto the scene with the best-selling album Tubular Bells, which achieved further fame (or perhaps notoriety) as the theme music for The Exorcist. Mike's musical style ranges far and wide, from hard rock to pop to New Age. My favorite albums include Islands, The Songs of Distant Earth, Amarok, Voyager and Tubular Bells I and II.

Philosophy of Life

I am an agnostic atheist by belief, skeptic by method and secular humanist by philosophy.
